SR500

So I stripped down my SR500 and have gotten started cleaning up the frame. I have ordered a lot of parts and plan to try doing everything as clean as I possibly can on this one. Nothing crazy or flashy. I hope to have it done in the next few months. I got myself a full table lift today and my back is liking it aleady. Debating on building the motor and going to like 540cc with a nice cam. Motor was really healthy and low miles, so we will see how it looks. I will try to keep up on my progress as I go along.

I've Been Busy

As usual.
Finished up the fuel tank for my dad's airplane. (Over 17' of Alum Heli-Arcin'.) He can't stop smilin'.(Where else you gonna get one?)
Installed a new kicker gear in another ironhead sportster (3rd one this year, damn those things are coming back!)
Somebody had welded the previous one on..(Not good with a hammer I guess?)
Found out somebodys buildin' a new hotrod in Millville when I went to register this doe I shot (70 yds thru the woods, Tasty!).
Did you know old Harleys handle the best down dirt roads?(More period correct I spose.)
My buddy owns some sand pits with pines growin' up.(I know it isn't as fancy as the $40 tree farm ones, but this one has a story, & it's the real deal!)

Pretty awesome.

I hope it inspires some young chopper worshipper to build and hit the gym.

Show Class

I've been a subscriber since the first issue. This month was dedicated to choppers in the metro.
When I found out about this I said fuck it I'm going.
I only get up there about once a year so it was great to see everyone.
The HEAVY guys really build some cool bikes & their workshop is really neat.
I knew it would be a challenge riding there considering it is November in Minnesota, coupled with the party starting at 9pm, &  100 miles each direction.
We made it though & it was a blast. It was 44 degrees at 1:30am. Not Bad!

Mines cooler than yours...

My cap was kinda fucked up so I needed a new one. Why not one with some class. Genuine leather. Of course made in the beautiful USofA.

Hold My Beer & Watch This...

We had a wonderful house-warming party at Jordans this last weekend. I sweet talked him into starting his '59 which had been sitting for awhile. Probably a good thing the clutch was draggin or we might still be in jail.

Never Gets Old

Listening to DAC at work when this came on. I hipped my dad to it, now he wanders around humming this tune, checking craigslist every day.

Stuffed

No.. Not like a turkey..... Found this man thong being used as an insulator for a 3" cobble-jockey special exhaust. Was stuffed between the gas tank and the pipe. I can almost imagine the story behind it (gee, shit luck we didn't account for this vibration, got an extra g-string??). I didn't bother checking to see who's name was written on the band... Looked like it said Jordasche...

HP is in the Heads!

Ported the heads for the 95" listed below.
Every set I do is by hand & tailored to the combination.
No CNC, hogged out, everyone gets the same thing, cookie cutter, polished to the max, oversprung, high lift gains only, unknown chamber size combinations here.
All pretty basic mild stuff but with a lot of tricks for this engine.
I dont know if I would want to do a set every day, but it is kind of fun to watch them take shape, go home at the end of the day with dirty hands & aluminum chips in your pockets.
In anticipation for when it goes on the dyno & makes good power.

Nice Jugs

Took the day off work today to go visit Axtell.  We had to pick up some customer stuff anyways, so we figured we'd go see some of the worlds fastest cylinders & the guys that machine them. It was really neat. I love machine shops!

70 Today, 30 Tomorrow

It was probably the last real nice day we'll have here in MN for a couple months. I hit the gravel roads to visit some friends & drink some beer. I blended in half a tank of E85 & man was that flathead screamin' today. Really liked those extra oxygen molecules!

Things that Plague your Twin Cam

Poor crankshaft runout, inner cam bearing failure & cam chain tensioners that last less than 40K.

All off these addressed on this 95" I'm working on.
.0005" runout, torrington cam bearings, updated support plate, oil pump and hydraulic tensioners. Going to be a sweet little machine.

XLCH

Wonder where Leo Payne got this shirt? Wish I could have seen him run in another life. Maybe I did?

Handmade Parts are the Nicest

Made these this week.

Figured they would look good on these Super E's.
Maybe break the world record?

They'll be in the mail tomorrow!
