The Missing Link

I saw Kevin Baas do this so before we left for Davenport I changed the chain on my flathead and stuck the old master link on my springer. It almost got put into use when Jordan's '59 chucked the chain, but it got twisted and ruined.

I used a small piece of rubber hose to hold the link snug. No rattling or shakin around.

Will I ever use it? I don't know.
Will you be glad I'm with when you need one? Probably!

A Beautiful Day with Beautiful People

This years fall flood run was just a gorgeous day. 75 degrees and sunny. I've never seen so many boats out on the Mississippi River so late in the year.  We really had a great day.

This about sums it up. What a ride!

Test n Tune

Jake and I finally caught a free Friday night about a month ago and went to Cedar Falls raceway to make some passes.

I was pretty happy with the results. I freshened my sportster up this past winter, I knew it was faster, but wanted to know HOW much faster.  11.35@116.7mph !  I'm defintely rusty but maybe I can get back out this fall with some cool air and see if I can get closer to cracking into the 10's!!
Not bad, pump gas driven daily.

Nice Radius Inlets!

I was wondering if they made it back to the salt with the 61"
Wonder how it went? I might have to email John Endrizzi.
I hadn't seen a pic of those on the engine yet, they look nice.

Davenport 2014

Davenport is always a special treat. My dad & I share the same birthday (Aug31) so that makes the trip a celebration of sorts. It also marks the end of summer, making the trip bittersweet.

We thought for sure we were going to have to run in some rain but we totally dodged it both directions!

We always stop in Guttenburg, IA to eat at Greaser's Drive-In. The gal said this might be their last year in business after 31 years. That really bums me out. America needs more places like Greasers!

It's a big victory to ride through the fairgrounds, stretch out in the grass, and see old friends.

You just have to experience the RACE! Itchy Bickerton was on fire. He lapped the field, grabbed the checkered flag and wheelied sideways into the corner wide open. All one handed gaining speed. Pretty Wild!

Jordan's chain broke about 20 miles north of Davenport on the way home. Luckily he didn't crash or get hurt. I rode back to the swap meet, bought a chain and Noot had  the tool I needed to shorten it. (102 links for an early sportster, 106 for a later machine)

The old bikes really ran good. People stop and watch as they thunder by, many wave. It's small town USA and Harley still reigns Supreme!
