Found on road dead

Spent the day yesterday replacing this broken shift linkage in my daily driver. How does a 1" steel rod snap in half from shifting an automatic? Apparently its really common on these older Fords.

yup.. fail. turn down a piece of rod, put it in there, line it up, drill two holes and rosette the fucker in there.

bought it at Ford and was in stock...so that tells you it must happen a lot. $47 and its fixed. There is a plunger that goes down through the middle...thought about welding but opted for the quick fix.
