We went west yesterday to pick up a truck for Jordan. The old timer let us tour the entire place and HOLY SHIT WAS IT SWEET!

Competition Heads Part 2

Last month I made a post about Part One. Since then I have done 2 more sets of this particular combination with small changes tailored to cubic inch and cam size.


I'll pick up where I left off at polishing the combustion chamber. Then I CC the chamber to find the size and calculate how much to mill in order to get the desired static compression ratio.

Next the head is milled to reduce chamber size and ensure a smooth/flat gasket surface.

Time to set up the valve spring installed height, which dictates spring pressure and coil bind. This is very critical!

Install the seals and valve springs. Note the beehive design as opposed to dual springs. This is some of the latest in spring technology.

And there you have it! There is much more that goes into them that I didn't show in detail here. Port size, shape, bowl size, valve job angles and depths, flowbench testing and port speed, etc. These heads move over 280cfm @ .600" @ 28". Necessary to make 120,130,140+hp depending on the combo.
