HP is in the HEADS

I built the engine on my 09 883 sportster this winter, increasing the displacement to 1200cc's.
I wanted to do something different to the cylinder heads so I bought a set of bare 883 castings because they have such a small chamber and ports leaving me with material to work with.
Then I proceeded to weld up the chambers and exhaust port floors. I started to rough out the
chamber shape and machine out the original seats to install larger ones. The valvejob came from a hours of development on the flowbench and dyno. I used a set of shelf wiseco pistons with skirt coatings but I could only get them with the dome or a dish, needing a flattop forged piston I machined the domes off. So what did all this fucking around accomplish?

A 11.5:1 engine with small chambers, flat pistons, and tons of squish. Combined with Woods .630" lift camshafts with an intake closing event of 50 degrees ABDC and I've got one bad machine that runs on pump gas. It goes by big-inch Twin Cams like they are in reverse and boy is it FUN!

Hairy back Wednesdays

Here's a taste of what I'm going to reserve for my 40th birthday, and wear everyday from there on out.

Starting to tear apart the turbo motor. Remember when you helped me put the turbo in Pat? You've been helping my needy ass for a while now haha!!

Found a small battery so now I can finish setting up the oil tank, but decided I need to make some kinda bracket to hold my BMC on... Will I weld it to the frame or make a bracket off of the back of the kicker cover...... ONLY time will tell on HAIRY BACK WEDS.

Five Finger Death Punch Bad Company

a remake of a good one...

To be 4 again...

I havent posted in awhile because I have been busy getting my 86 CRX ready to drag race on sunday. The car went 12.26, 11.80, 11.65 and 11.60 @ 119mph to win the all motor street class. While I was getting the car sorted out my boy was running around taking pictures, so these are all taken by a 4 year old. enjoy.

can't sleep, must blog.

can't sleep, must blog. hahaha.

Oh yeah, I also brought back to life a 73 shovelhead oil pump. The surfaces were flat and the only thing was a bit of oxidation, not corrosion, which was removed with alumaprep. It shined right up with a brass brush. Then i ground and filed down the welds on the top seat stays where the weld on section meets the frame.

Thanks to Dylan for bringing down your soda blaster and convincing Dr. Jones to buy a pallet of soda to blast through the summer in front of the auto lab!
And to believe there was a guy hovering over my frame recently while I wasnt there with a level and a ruler.. Some people just have to get a look for themselves I suppose...

Ok, been a few restless days tearing into my to-do list. Totally neglecting my actual work; we'll see when the boss catches on...

First, I soda blasted the squared oil bag, and then started to cut out the shitty battery-box thing some hippie had tried welding in.

Then I took the frame outside and soda blasted it clean too.. VERY NICE

Here's what it looks like as I mock up the cast floorboard tabs for welding.

At night I tore off the rear subframe out of the below car.... Now i just gotta clean it up and swap it into the newer one.. Hopefully this weekend.

No suspension, wiring harness, tail lights, speakers, steering wheel, interior, and the motor/trans is comming out this weekend. I want my turbo motor back!

Today I rebuilt the 1972 rear juice drum brake and hub with new hardware and bearings. I also treated some rust that was inside the rim and painted it black. No detailed pictures, I was hard at work.

Then I built up the nerve to start welding on my narrowed sporty tank.. Not too bad considering I just learned how to TIG.

Finally, A mock up of what I've been doing while avoiding my work this week. I swear I'll get it done tonight (my work that is). The tank wont be sitting that high or forward, its the only way i got it to stay for a picture.

Bike Night!!!!!

Bikes, Cold Beer, Burgers, Burnouts, Horseshoes, Slow Races, and General Tomfoolery.

Only the best for my friends

Pat. You sent me these poor bars that needed my tender powder work. HAHA. Gloss black on the bars and on the marker housing. I hope you wanted them both black, cuz thats what you got!

I first wire wheel the entire thing, then wipe them down with a denatured solvent and then toss them on a bar which goes in @ 400 for 10 minutes to get the shit burned off the surface. I pull them out of the oven, blow the powder on thick, check for contaminants and back in the oven for 30min.

Vintage Iron

I took my kids to watch a local antique tractor pull saturday. This sport has really died in the last 20 years. I can remember dudes from all around bringing out their baddest machinery. A large majority of these are from the 1930's to 50's and it's pretty astonishing that so many of them run so well and still pull thousands of pounds. Something about 500ci, 2 cylinders on race gas that gets your heart pounding!

Shock modification

Fuck you, Monday...

Already counting the minutes til the weekend, better yet Thursday and Friday bike night this week.

Saturday in the garage.

Worked on making a seat pan for the Japsingle. I really need to learn to weld, I think I will.

Run for the Sun

Every sunday jordan and i meet at 6am. We've invited others to join, but the beers from the night before always keep them in bed. The shit you miss everyday sleeping in is really pretty amazing and is pretty cool to see on a bike. Words cant explain it, you just have to experience it. See you in CHURCH
